Hi. I hope I'm posting on the proper forum. I want to start a bookie business in time for the Super Bowl. How do I open a sportsbook? A friend mentioned using a pay per head and that I only pay for every active player. Can anyone explain to me how that works?

Hi Jethro, welcome to the forum. a pay per head is pretty good idea if you want to start a sportsbook. I've been using one for a few years now and can't complain so far. It's just about finding the one that you like as there are a lot of pph companies out there. Basically, you just sign up, then create the accounts for your customers, give them their login info and send them to the betting website that your PPH runs and they can start betting.
afterwards, they pph have reports you can see to see their win/loss that you can use to settle up with you customers every week or whenever you want.
From what I understand, a pay per head bookie let's you use their service which includes the website where players can place their bet, and a way to manage your customers. So you dont actually own the software but are kind of like renting it. The rent is a few bucks a week per players that placed at least 1 bet that week. I hear its a pretty cheap method to be a bookie since they take care of the lines mgt and all that sutff. you only need to worry about getting clients and the money part
There are at least 3 ways to open a sportsbook. They are
- Making one from scratch by buying the betting software, making the site and hiring all of the staff
- use a sportsbook white label
- use a pay per head
Easiest and fastest one is to use a PPH. That is unless you have deep pockets and can start one from the groundup
Here is a video on how to open a sportsbook that shows how to do it with these 3 methods
