I dont know if any of you have been following what happened but it's become a huge deal where the Dodgers fired Ippei Mizuhara, who was Shohei Ohtani friend and interpreter for stealing money from Shohei Ohtani to pay off his gambling debts with a bookie. Now, looking at the news, it looks like 2 clashing responses have been coming from Ohtani's team.

One says Ohtani had nothing to do with it and he just helped his friend pay his betting debts. Then, the other statement from them says that Mizuhara stole the money from Ohtani? Sounds a bit fishy. Think there is more to the story?

after reading a few articles on it, I am convinced that he was just trying to help a friend. I figure what happened is that he wanted to help his friend, but since he was involved with an illegal bookie, his legal team paid Mizuhara off and told him to change his story to keep too much mud from splatting on him

He certainly was not involved in betting himself.I mean, first off, the guy has a crap load of money and just signed a $700 million contract with the Dodgers last December. So why would he need to bet with a shady bookie on credit? Especially since he can bet on a legal sportsbook in the US as there is no japanese law against it.

Just in, he is supposed to talk to the media today about the matter. https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/ohtani-to-speak-to-media-for-1st-time-since-illegal-gambling-theft-allegations-against-interpreter/

of course, the article says nothing as to when and where it will happen
