According to the chief official of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor), the company plans to fully separate itself from its casino operations and transition to a regulatory function role in the next five years.

The goal of Pagcor, according to CEO and Chairman Alejandro Tengco, is to become a regulatory body that focuses only on the gaming industry, with the express purpose of regulating expansion and drawing in more investors.

This is a good move because the agency can now focus on regulating the Philippine gaming industry. Pagcor will no longer run casinos, which means there will be no conflict of interest. It will attract more investors in the industry.

I was wondering about this. PAGCOR was kind of unique because they are the country's regulatory body but they also handled casinos. Then there seemed to be shifting policies on gambling that was kind of confusing a few years back.

I guess this means that the Philippines will be looking at more investments in the gaming industry. Given their geography im sure both online and retail operations will be profitable.

This is pretty common with smaller markets that eventually grow into a larger one. Development-wise its good, and it also gives the market fair competition since the regulator is no longer a fellow operator.
