Next week, attorneys representing the provincial government of Ontario and the organization in charge of the province's competitive internet gambling industry will be in court to uphold the framework's regulatory requirements.

The iGaming Ontario agency is requesting that the Ontario Superior Court of Justice reject an application from the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke that might lead to the closure of the iGaming regime.

Is this another case of Tribes not wanting to share the online gambling market with others? Ontario is one of the North American markets that allows multiple operators to run a sportsbook in its territory. MCK argued that the state is not running the market as stated in federal laws. That's why they challenged iGaming Ontario in court.

Is the MCK right with its argument?

Its a common issue where areas with tribal casino operations are. unfortunately, its mostly technical and legal so it really will have to be settled in court- which could take a while. Unless they request for a temporary ban or hold pending the decision, then there should be no problem for now.

To do: Read the latest gambling industry news, head on over here, and let's talk about the latest in gaming and sports betting!

The tribes should allow Ontario to handle sports betting instead of wanting to have a monopoly in the province. A competitive market is good for players.

Nothing personal against the tribes but they tend to be a bit greedy when it comes to monopolizing gambling. Its one of the reasons why florida and california have had so much trouble legalizing sports betting

@aj1980 true. I cannot remember which states had this problem, but I do remember some sports betting bills getting denied or delayed because of lobbying from tribal casino operators. I know the issues are also political and all that, but it really does impede on what could be a smoother process in legalizing betting and igaming across the continent.

Getting insights on the sports betting industry from the bookie point of view never ends. Its how we get better.

The thing is, whatever Ontario does, other provinces in Canada may follow. Ontario tends to spearhead much of gambling efforts in the country, so what they do could affect how the rest of Canada will handle gambling and sports betting. This could be a problem so they really need to iron this out.

@andieandcoffee This. Alberta is actively pursuing online gaming and has its eyes set to copy Ontario's model.
