The complexity of laws means that just 18 states have legalized esports betting. Problems with player age and integrity arise since each jurisdiction has its own set of rules about betting and what is permissible. This makes it difficult, if not impossible, to legalize esports betting.

Knowledge required to appropriately forecast the market and evaluate the odds at the proper pricing is another difficulty that esports encounter more frequently than traditional sports. New teams, metas, and sometimes whole games appear in esports every month. Because of this unpredictability, esports-specific expertise is required, and the already complex process of defining proper boundaries becomes even more so.

How do you think eSports can overcome these challenges?

I think that like with any new betting product, there is a learning curve. For eSports betting, the curve must be steep since we are talking about quite a diverse market here. It might be easier to integrate sports-adjacent eSports events and games. But gaming? Yeah I expect it to take years before we see the market mature.

Getting insights on the sports betting industry from the bookie point of view never ends. Its how we get better.

Once the market matures, people playing eSports games today can legally bet on events by then. Thus, they know more about the games and make better betting picks.
